NEST: Call for NH Artists

This juried exhibition explores the idea of ‘NEST’ in both its literal and metaphorical contexts.The work may be broadly interpreted to include all interpretations that the word ‘NEST’ may imply. Points of inspiration may include but are not limited to bird, insect and animal nests; family and home; comfort and retreat; the nesting of objects; and organizing hierarchies.  

Exhibition Dates: Saturday, June 3 - Friday, September 1, 2023

Juror: Pam Tarbell
Pam Tarbell is a national exhibiting artist and curator who owned and operated the Mill Brook Gallery and Sculpture Garden in Concord, NH for twenty-two years. She has a B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design; is a United States Art in Embassies Artist: Ambassador’s Residency in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Africa; is a Juried Member of the National Association of Women Artists and Massachusetts’s Chapter, and has served on several boards and committee advocating for the arts in New Hampshire. pamtarbell.com.

About Twiggs Gallery: Twiggs Gallery’s mission is to create a vibrant community dedicated to supporting and enjoying local art and artists. They offer adult art classes; group exhibits showcasing local and regional artists; and free events all year long.

The gallery is an active member of New Hampshire’s Capital Region arts community. 2023 marks their first year as a 501c3 non-profit and their 8th year in operation. Over the years, Twiggs Gallery has mounted  40+ exhibits; offered hundreds of adult art and crafting classes; collaborated with many arts organizations in NH; and hosted over 100 free art-focused events to the public.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Deadline for Entry: Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 11:59 pm EST. 

Entry Fee: $20 for up to three artworks. Open to NH Artists. 

Week of May 1: Artist Notification 

Drop-off: May 18,19, 20 from 1-3 pm or by appointment.

Shipping: Please let us know if you plan to ship the artwork. Shipped artwork must arrive  May 18-20. You must include a FedEx or UPS return shipping label. No USPS unless you plan to pick-up the artwork in person. Shipped artwork must be framed with plexiglass to eliminate the danger of breakage.

Opening reception: Saturday, June 3 from 1-3 pm

Exhibit ends: Friday, September 1 at 4 pm

Pick-Up: Sun Sept. 10, Thur Sept 14, Fri Sept 15 from 1-3 or by appointment. 

Return Shipping: Shipped Artwork will be returned on or before the week of September 18

Exhibition Terms: All works in the show must be for sale. Artists set their own prices. Commission is 60% for the Artist / 40% Twiggs Gallery.  Artists will receive payment for sold works when the exhibition closes.  

Insurance: All work is insured while hanging in the gallery. 

Artwork Specifications/Restrictions: Exceptions to these all of these restrictions can be made, but only with the prior approval of Twiggs Gallery manager, Laura Morrison. 

• No Video or Ceiling Hung work

• 3-D Artwork/Installations

      • Small works must be able to fit comfortably on a 14” x 14” pedestal. 
      • Larger works or small installations that sit on the floor must fit within a
        2’ x 4’ footprint.


• 2-D Artwork

      • No larger than 40” h x 30” w, framed
      • Framed artwork must be wired for hanging. No key holes or saw tooth hangers, they do not work with our hanging system. Pastels, prints and watercolors should be framed under glass or plexiglass. Mats must be cleanly cut and free of dirt and debris. Glass surfaces must be clean. Shipped artwork must be framed with plexiglass to eliminate the danger of breakage.
      • Artwork on stretched canvas must either be framed or the edges must be gallery-wrapped and nicely finished with no visible staples. 
      • Please affix labels with name, title and price to the back or bottom of the artwork.
